Question
Thanks for the info.  Dachshund's hurt their backs when they compress them.  Going up the stairs isn't bad for them, it is going down when their backs compress.  I heard this from my vet who has had 4 Dachshunds.

I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building in Southern CA and we have a Mini Weiner Dog.  Since going up and down stairs is not good for them, i built a 4' X 3' box out of 2x6's and a ply wood bottom.  I put about 5" of soil in it and then laid sod on top.  It grows great expect for the spots he frequents.  What can i put on these spots that will neutrualize the acid and be safe for my dog?  Please help.  I am on my second set of sod in 4 months.  Thanks

Do you know that they now make litter boxes for dogs, nd have a specail litter for dogs?
There is nothing that you can put on there to kep the urine from killing out the spots, unless you have the sod in an area where you can water it till the water will all drain through, and wash out the urine. It is a concentration of acid from the urine that kills th grass.
I was not aware going up and down stairs is not good for them.
I know Dachshunds have a proclivity for back problems later on, but I was not aware going up and down stairs was bad for them.
If that something you have heard a lot, or from your Veterinarian?
It could be an old wives tale, started by someone that was overly protective, and just figured it out for themselves.
I searched for some sites where you can get some information on that particular breed, from breeders.
Check out these sites and maybe you can get a deffinate answer on that, based on science.
