QuestionWhat do you know about "Supina bluegrass"? It was mentioned on a home-garden program I was watching. Is it a good grass option?
AnswerThis recent German import, "Supina Bluegrass" (Poa supina) is distinguished by its Light Green leaves and shallow roots and stolons. It is not drought-tolerant and it costs a bundle. After sowing, Supina takes 2 to 3 weeks to get off the ground -- so to speak.
So what's so good about it? Apparently, Supina is not so picky about sun. Trials indicate it fares better in shade than its hybrid Bluegrass relatives. Blending it with other grasses will cut down on the sticker shock.
Like other Bluegrasses, cool-weather Supina is at its greenest in Fall and Spring.
If all this sounds worth looking into, expect to have trouble finding it in stores. It's new, it's expensive, and not the lawn for Everyman. Then, perhaps this is a good reason for you to grow it.
