Question
What do you know about this product and is it safe to use?  It is supposed to be fairly nontoxic to mammals especially to people.

For starters, if you live on Long Island, and many other communities in the United States, Dimension 2EW Herbicide is a new formulation from Dow AgroSciences which is TOTALLY ILLEGAL to use for ANY reason.

In the rest of New York, and other states, you need a special license to even BUY this stuff and to use it.  Dow AgroSciences is advertising this as SAFE for use on things like VEGETABLES!  And they brag that it won't "stain" your driveway, your sidewalk, etc.

Active ingredient: Dithiopyr, which is a Pyridine Herbicide.  Take a look at a Dithiopyr molecule: http://www.alanwood.net/pesticides/dithiopyr.html  Now think about this: When it was first introduced, and Golf Courses around the country started using it, they found out -- AFTER it was applied -- that it was wiping out Bentgrass on the Golf Courses!  They use Bentgrass for Putting Greens.  And you can imagine how the members felt when they showed up one morning to hit a few at sunrise and they found all their Putting Greens had turned Brown overnight!  They were not happy campers, I can tell you that much.

Now, this did not happen EVERYWHERE.  Just a few places.  I would not want to be the greensman at any of those few places.  Especially since Dow promises up and down that the stuff is SAFE!

And so the Golf industry was quite upset with the people at Dow for doing that to them.  I'm sure the people at Dow did what the people at Scotts would do: They pay for the unused chemical and give them their money back.

But now there's a new formula!

This product is on numerous state Hazardous lists and "known" in the State of California to cause Cancer.

Since they make it with Naphthalene, it automatically gets an EPA Hazardous Waste number.

And it kills birds.  If you drink it, it will kill you.  Why would you want to use that on something you care about, like your lawn?

What does it do to the microbes in your soil?

I don't even want to think about it.

What do I know about Dimension Crabgrass Killer?  I know that God does not like it and I will listen to Him!
