QuestionWhat is sweet soil and is this bad for plants or good?
AnswerMy friend, back in the olden days, when settlers reached a clearing and wanted to know whether the soil would be good for farming, they would test it -- by tasting it!
If the soil was good for growing things, it tasted "Sweet" -- higher pH, on the alkaline side. "Sour" soil with a low pH (acid) was not so good for crops. Note: Don't try this at home. Especially if you are the kind of gardener who has been using Pesticides for years.
So, yes, Sweet Soil is good for plants that need Alkaline soil. It's bad for plants that need Sour Soil.
Soil that was sprinkled with Sugar of course would taste very sweet indeed. But what a waste of Sugar!
