QuestionI live in central Texas and I hate my lawn. I have a very nice green covering of St. Augustine in the front (it took 5 hard years of knee bending to get it that way) However, my backyard is full of stickers, clover, creeping charlie, thistles ect... to the point that I don't have any grass to mention of in the back yard. I planted new trees in the back yard as well and water them every third day so the area around them have weeds that are 2 ft tall. I am tired of tracking stickers in my house and have considered just burning the yard up if it were not for the burning laws in my city. Can you suggest anything that will get rid of all the weeds so that I can start fresh?
Thanks
Tired of getting poked
AnswerHi Mickie;
I live in North Texas, Irving, and I have no working knees or back, from all those years of pull;ing weeds, among other reasons.LOL
Switch to organics.
That will do it.
Weeds will not thrive in rich soil.
Make rich soil and the weeds that do come up will die out right away.
After a couple of years of organics, weeds, if they do come up, will not even get big enough for you to see, before they are gone.
I haven't seen a weed in my yard for about 8 years.
I hav put NO chemical lawn products on my lawn in the past 9 or 10 years.
I had all those weeds, plus crabgrass, johnson grass, dollar weed, dandelions, clover, etc.
Never see them anymore.
Start by putting dow table sugar at the rate of about 4 pounds per 1000 sq.ft.
If you get more or less, or spill a bunch in one spot, it will not burn like chemical fertilizers will.
Chemical fertilizers kill the beneficial microbes that work round the clock enriching your soil.
Sugar does nothing but nourish these microbes.
Sugar doesn't kill or burn or attract anything. It just feeds those microbes, and they do the rest.
Read my other answers on organic gardening, and write me with any questions you have.
We will get you weedfree and with a beautiful lawn, while you still have some knees left. LOL
