QuestionI live in Middle Tennessee. I have just seeded and fertilized my yard, I have no irrigation and I know that it is winter but will it still work? Also, I did not aerate or power rake or till for that matter! Is there a chance I could get results? thank you so much
AnswerHi Justin;
Hard to say.
a lot depends on what time of year that is done in your climate, what kind of grass you put in, and how good the soil is.
If your soil is nice and loose, you don't need to till or even aerate.
If the soil is hard clay, you are not going to grow anything until you loosen up the soil.
Hard clay will not let the roots grow through it, and it will not let water seep to the roots.
If yur soil is loose enough, and that is the right time of year to do that where you live, and you water and feed well, you should hgave success.
I heartily recommend going on an organic program right from the start.
It will save you a lot of heartaches down the road, and a lot of work and expense.
I can't imagine where my mind was all those years I struggled with trying to grow a beautiful lawn and garden using all the chemical junk that there is out there, when it is so easy, so much less work and expense and so much better results with organics.
If your soil is pretty loose, but still needs improvement, you can do it by the things you do to the top of the soil.
Lava sand is great, and so is alfalfa meal.
Corn gluten meal improves the soil and conditions it as it works.
The organics make a healthy enviornment for all the beneficial microbes and organisims that work round the clock improvimg your soil.
The beneficial microbes, earthworms and other beneficial insects, improve the soil, and enrich it.
Chemical fertilizers DO NOT enrich the soil, no matter what the companies that make then say.
They do more harm than good.
They actually MAKE the probelms, organics solve the problems.
