Question Brillion Seeded a new ballfield Oct.11 and grass is just starting to grow now Nov. 27 . We had an unusually cold Oct. but very warm Nov. here in ct. which delayed germination till now. Fertilizer was applied prior to seeding 19-19-19 water soluble. Is it prudent and wise to refertilize now with a high nitrogen but slow release fertilizer or wait until spring?
AnswerI honestly believe it best to stop all fertilizing and wait until spring. See how things look, then put down your slow release fertilizer. With further N right now, Nitrogen will generate lots of tender leaf growth that is not dormant and your grass will be kaput in no time flat.
