QuestionI was thinking of putting in a bentgrass lawn next spring. I'm not really sure if this is a good idea. Do you have any ideas about it? I do have kids and want to have a good lawn too but I know golf clubs use a lot of pesticides and things that are not in our best interests, can I still have bentgrass?
AnswerAu contraire, Joe, fairways are seeking to be chemical-free and provide the laboratory needed to test new organic techniques.
The only problem I see with a bentgrass lawn is your mowing height. If the lawn is to be mowed properly, it will have to be cut quite close to the ground. Are you prepared to ditch the traditional lawnmower and find one that can mow your grass a half inch high?
The soil should be carefully prepared and amended. And since you can't grow first rate grass without first rate seed, make sure you have a weed-free seed mixture that will Wow the neighbors.
