AnswerHi Charlie;
I will NEVER recommend using any kind of poisons or chemicals on your lawn.
I did use chemicals for over 40 years before I tried organics.
BOY!!! what a whole different world.
Organics is more about what you don't do, rather than what you do.
Toads love slugs and grubs, lizards and grass snakes love grubs, and beneficial nematodes will devour them when they are just starting under your soil.
Leave all chemicals off your yard, and use only organic remedies, and you will not have the problems to deal with anymore.
For the last 8 or 9 years, since I started using organics, I hardly do any work in my yard, less than 5 hours per week, in the busiest months, less in the dormant months.
My toads. lizards and grass snakes, and beneficial insects eat all the bad bugs, so I don't have to deal with them, and never have any damage from them.
I put sugar on my lawn every spring and fall at the rate of 4 pounds per 1000 sq,ft.
All the sugar does is nourish the beneficial microbes that work all the time, enriching the soil.
Weeds won't grow in rich soil, so I don't have weeds to contend with.
If I were you, I would buy some beneficial nematodes ( if yopu have put no chemicals down in at least three months), and let them take care of the grubs.
You can get them at most burseries, and online too.
You can get nematodes there.
Look up organic lawn products in your area. You should get a list of the nurseries in your area.
Your nematodes should have the grub probelm solved by spring, if not before.
Anything you want to know about organics, just write me. I am very happy to share what I have learned, and am still learning.
You have to go all the way, one way or the other. If you put down chemicals, you undo the banefits of the organics you use.
