Question -
I am doing a project on dyeing (not dying) grass. It would be really great if you could tell me if the type of water that the grass is watered with before germination affects the grass afterwards. Also, any information of dyes, germination, chlorophyll, and other grass-subjects would be loved!

Answer -
Megan, water is water.
I have no idea what you are talking bout, and I don't do homework.
Are you the same Megan that asked me the question on the dogs board?
Are you playing games?

Dear charlotte,

This is a legitimate question I am asking to help prepare for my science fair project. I am attempting to see if adding dyed water to seeds will result in a colored blade grass. I'm asking for your help in determining the way a blade of grass turns green. And if grass can absorb dyed water and if so, how it may occur. I have never sent you any other emails. Thanks for your help, Megan

Answer
Hi Megan;
Colorant won't change the color of the grass.
If you put a carmation, and some other cut flowers that absorb a lot of water, in a vase and put food coloring in the water, it will soak up the colored water, and change the color of the blossom, but you can't change the color of grass by dying it with anything that I know of.
The green color comes from chlorophil in the plant, and photosynthisis, and they way our eyes refract light.
Her are some sites I found that might answer it for you more thoroughly.
Copy and paste these in yoyr browser, and check them out.
