QuestionI see someone else has had the same sort of problem that I have. We recently had a tree removed and and an asphalt driveway to make more lawn. New black dirt, seeded, covered with straw and watered religiously. Everything looked great until two days ago when I noticed what looked to be a liquid that resembled black crued oil. The area affected seems to be expanding. What do I apply? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm afraid we"re going to lose the whole newly seeded area.
Appreciate you time.
AnswerHi Ann.
You and Gorgia have the same problem, so I am going to just answer, then copy the answer to her too.
It is definately a fungus, and will respond to a fungicide. Either baking soda or corn gluten are excellent fungicides.
You mix about 1/4th cup baking soda to each gallon of water, and spray to saturate.
The corn gluten , I THINK you put it on and water it in.
While I was preparing to answer this, it dawned on me,,,, I wonder if that is the black mold everybody was so afraid of?
I have been getting a lot of questions about that black powdery mold that feels oily on people's grass.
If it is that black mold, spraying it until it is saturated with water with clorox in it should get rid of it.
It sure killed it off my wall.
I used very strong clorox, and I don't think you would use it that strong on your grass.
I would think about 1 to 2 Tablespoons per gallon of water.
I don't know if it will harm you to breathe it in.
I am sure it isn't good for you.
It wouldn't hurt to call your doctor and ask him/her, just to be on the safe side.
I am wondering if all these questions are coming from the same part of the country?????
