QuestionI live in the mid Huson Valley. When is the best time to seed an established lawn.
AnswerStart in late august when the soil temperatures are still warm. Loosen soil to a dept of a few inches and apply 4-6 lbs of seeds per 1000 sq feet. Then rake in and firm down by using back of rake to stamp the seeds into the soil (good soil/seed contact). Water the seeds twice daily to keep the seed bed moist at all time until the new seeds germinate (sprout). In early september, the seeds should sprout and you can gradually change to an infrequent and deep watering pattern (such as once per week for 1 hour) but do this gradually over a few weeks. Fertilize in september, late october and late may. Do not fertilize in summer.
