I live in Alamaba we have a stong mature lawn of zoysai and suddenly nut grass has appeared. I read you article about sugar to kill nut grass. my qusetions: how much? how often? will if work with/ not harm zoysia? thanks you for you advise.

Hi Michael;
Sugar doesn't kill anything.
what it does is nourish the beneficial microbes that enrich the soil. Weeds love poor soil and will not grow and thrive in opoor soil.
Organics will not harm ANYTHING!!!
Organics arenature's way. the way God ste it up to work.
chemicals are just growing artificially, and artificial things just don't work well over a long eriod of time, and you have to stay on top of everything.
If you miss one lick, you can be back to square one.
Organics allows you some leeway.
I ap[ply sugar in the spring or fall. you can do it any time of year.
I didn't get my fall feedkling last year down, until april of this year, and my lawn didn't suffer from it.
Had I been using chemicals and missed the fall feeding, my grass would not have come up as well or as thick.
Last summer we had an unusually hard drought and heat, so My grass pooked a little poorly. I applied another sugar application in about july, and watered it in, and my lawn perked right up.
I guess the extreme hear killed off some of the beneficial microbes. I know it almost killed me off . LOl
I had to water every 4 or 5 days, rather than my usual once a week. We just didn't get any free water from the skies at all.

AnswerHi Michael.
Sugar doesn't KILL WEEDS.
It nourishes beneficial microbes that enrich the soil.
Rich soil is what gets rid of the weeds. Weeds like poor soil and will not thrive in rich soil.
I apply sugar in the spring and fall, but you can apply it anytime.
I use 1 pound sugar per 250 sq.ft of lawn and garden.
Put it all over the lawn.
I broadcast it by hand, and then water it in well.
Read my answers about proper watering.
Poor watering habits will help the weeds to grow.
As the microbes enrich the soil, the weeds will start to die out.
