new seeded grass turning redish

Question
My home was under construction this winter and my lawn toward the lake needed to be seeded this spring. It is a big hill graded toward the lake and sides and then flatens out before the water.  The grass started off fine and then the bottom part of the hill started turning redish.  The ground is very hard and I have not fertalized yet because I am unsure if it is a fungus or disease?  Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
it depends largely on where you live in this big world. soil content varies from area to area. i'm in southern NJ.
you can start by taking a sample of the effected area and putting it in a clear plastic bag and sealing it. visit a local garden center/nursery and ask them to advise you. see what they recommend for your area. buy products from them & they should be glad to help you plan your solution.
