QuestionWe have a lawn in North Georgia that was prepared with Meyrs
Zoysia sod. The Lawn has taken nicely but there are uneven
spots that look like pot holes and bare ares where weeds were
killed. What is the best sand to help level the uneven spots and
should I use seed or plugs for the bare areas?
Thank you!
Tom
AnswerI don't fill low spots with sand. I fill with good soil mixed with Landscaper's mix, or Planter's mix.
these are a mixture of peat moss, humus, and bark mulch.
Actually, I make my own mix with 1 part peat moss, 1 part humus, and (depending on the clay content of the soil I am adding it to, 1 to 3 parts cedar bark mulch.
I prefer cedar bark mulch for it's insect repelling properties, and it takes 2 years for it to compost, so it adds nutrients for a longer period. I thin mix that mix with 1 part mix, and 1 part existing soil. I fill with that, and then I add grass.
I always use sod, because I get tired of the birds eating my seeds, and the sod or sod plugs take off earlier and produce a better looking lawn, faster.
