Question
I bought a new Craftsman mower last week and the blade is absolutely flat on the contact edge...definitely not sharp!  I returned to Sears with the blade and they offered to exchange for a new one...which was just as bad.  I've always kept my mower blades sharp and will continue, but sharpening this one will be tough because so much metal will have to be removed to get to the edge.
Is there some new thinking about blade sharpness? I looked at all their replacement blades and did not find one that was anywhere near sharp.

Nothing new I know of. A sharp blade is, to me, absolutely necessary.
Take it to Sears repair people and tell they you want it shrpened or your money back. Bet they will sharpen it for you, or tell you if there is a reason it should not be sharpened.
Call the service department, not a salesperson.
