QuestionA neighbor of mine has St Augustine and I think its great. She just keeps it cut neatly and
never waters it. It only get water when it rains. It looks beautiful and seems to be low maintenance.
I can only find st. augustine in plugs from a place in florida. No seeds seem to exist. The price of
the plugs is pretty good however, the shipping of so much weight about triples the cost. Can you
give me a good alternative to st augustine thats available in seed? Something that looks nice and
will not require me to deplete the city's water supply every summer.
Thanks

AnswerHi Ronnie;
Unless you get a good rain every week, at least an inch each time, your neighbor is either watering at night ot watering with a soaker hose.
St. augustine tkes a lot of water, more than Burmuda does.
Some of my neighbors thought I never water, because they never see a sprinkler throwing water in the air.
I water with a soaker hose, and when I have to turn it on or change the pattern, I am only out there 5 minutes or less, so they don't see me working.
My next door neighbor says she never feeds her lawn or anything.
I Uh, I stay up quite late, and sometimes sit on my deck in the dark, when there is a nice breeze, and I see her feeding her lawn, at night, when she thinks everybody is in bed.
I don't know whay she wants people to think she never feeds her lawn.LOL
Can't you get St. Augustine at the nurseries where you live?
Ask her where she got hers.
