Removal of Bermuda before sodding

Question
I've applied roundup to my Bermuda grass in order to eliminate it
before resodding with a different grass.  My question is, once I've
removed the dead grass, should I rototill the soil before applying
another dose of roundup?  Or should I spray over the dirt?

Thanks for any info.

Answer
Nils,

First, dont remove the dead plant material.  Dead plant material in the soil will become organic matter and will eventually serve as a nutrition source for the new grass.

Second, when using the "Monsanto removal program", named after the company that makes Round Up, it may be necessary to make two or three or in some cases four applications.  I would give the grass at least 7 days from first sign of injury before re-application.  In other words, spray wait for injury to occur and then wait 7 days from the day you see injury before you spray again.  You can till inbetween applications but this is not necessarily needed.  Make sure that the bermudagrass is dead because once you establish a new type of grass in your yard, if the bermuda comes back your options are very limited.

Lastly, it is always a good idea to till the soil prior to any type of planting be it sod or seed.  Just keep in mind that this may present some weed pressure when seeding.

Thanks for the question and good luck!  Bermuda is tough to get rid of.
