Massachusetts , white grubs (zone 10 I believe)

Question
Last summer,we noticed our lawn becoming patched and turning white. My husband felt the problem was the heat.  Of course being the gardener and not the lawn expert, I suspected grubs.  Well here it is Spring and the grass is lifting easily when raked (BOO HOO) and  it rolls up with ease... especially some sodded areas (most luscious for the pests!!!!)... grubs. My question is whether or not to continue lifting up the lawn.  It is obviously dead. A friend suggested I stop.  Of course I've already pulled up sevaral patches anway intending on treatment  and then reseeding.  It took me 5 years to get a beautiful lawn and one season to destroy it.

Answer
Sorry to hear about your problem.
Grubs eat the crown of the plants and it will not survice and you should rake up any loose grass and reseed.

Use a grubicide now, and every year from here on onwards (atleast for 2-3 years). Right now choose a product which states that it works immediately.

In years to come choose Scott's Grub-Ex or Bayer Advanced All Season Long Grub Control (which both are based on merit, e.g. Imidacloprid). This insecticide is very good and you avoid damaging the good insects and critters (earthworms etc). However, it should be applied in June and will not work immediately. Go to the garden center and ask for a grubicide product which work right away.

FYI, MA is USDA Gardening zone 4 or 5 depending on location (sunset gardening zones are different)
