lawns -- fairy rings

Question
I've decided this spring to hire a lawn care business to do my spring clean-up(power raking and aerating). I'm, although, concerned about the spread of fairy rings to my lawn---I don't have any right now and I certainly don't wish to have them. My question is-- should lawn care business's be doing anything to prevent the spread fo fairy rings?  and are fairy rings less likely to be contagious in the spring? am I safer to hire them to do this work in the spring or are fairy contagious at all times of the year?

Answer
Hi Wendy;
If by lawn care business you mean those dudes that spray the heck out of everything with chemicals, i am totally against their existance.
One of my neighbiors used to have one of them, and every time they came and sprayed all that junk, all of us with Asthma were in bed for two weeks.
Those chemicals kill EVERYTHING, and make humans very ill.
If you mean someone who just mows and rakes and doesn't treat the lawn with anything, then great.
Gairy rings are fungus. they just grow when the conditions for fungus are right, or when there is a piece of decaying wood under the ground that needs to be dug uo.
To stop their spread and kill them out, mix about 4 rounded teaspoons of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of Horticulture oil ( or cooking oil) per gallon of water and spray the area well. you may need to treat more than once, but that is rare.
