Dog pee soup!

Question
I have looked at many of your responses to dogs causing lawn browning and am looking forward to using your methods this summer. This situation differs a little as my problem is mostly during the winter. My climatic region sees a lot of snow and frequent thawing. But the thawing only goes a couple inches deep, which results in an extremely soggy yard which looks and smells like rancid dog pee soup. We have many weeks of freezing nights and warming days to smell an entire winter season of urine from two large dogs (until around mid May) Are you aware of anything, that can be safely used around pets, that can be used on a large area to counteract the urine? It isn't important to me if the grass survives but I am worried that this will create soil conditions we won't be able to amend.
Thank you!

Answer
Hi Natalie;
Hm,I think I would water anyway, winter or not.
Is it only causing a soggy yard because there is ice/snow still on the ground under the thaw?
Or is it making a soggy yard because it thaws down to the ground and the soggy is mud?
If that is the case, maybe your soil has too much clay, in which case it needs to have some things tilled into it to make it looser. You could do that over the spring after the ground has thawed enough to trill.
I use Simple solution to clean up accidents in the house.you can get it at most pet stores.
It kills doggy odor( there is a formula for cats too).
It is also the best stain remover I have ever found. I use it for a lot of other stubborn stains besides those caused by puppies.
It kills the odor, soooo. Maybe try this. Put a gallon of Simple Solution in a garden sprayer, spray the peed on area.
Simple Solution works very well diluted with 2 parts water, so maybe dilute it to that solution and spray the yard, or spray the yard with water, then spray Simple solution on that full strength. Do it in the warmer part of the day, so it won't freeze as fast as you spray it.
That is the only thing i can thinl of, other than going over the area with a snow shovel or snow plow and removing the contaminated snow when there is enough there to activate the odor.
