WATERING LAWN

Question
I HAVE A BIG YARD AND WOULD LIKE TO USE MORE THAN ONE SPRINKLER AT A TIME TO COVER IT. WHEN I TRY TWO AT THE SAME TIME, THERE IS NOT ENOUGH PRESSURE TO OPERATE THEM. DO YOU KNOW OF A CHEAP METHOD OF USING TWO (or more) SPRINKLERS?

Answer
If you have a fixed sprinkler system you need to invest in a manifold unit which splits your system into zones. You would either manually, or via an automatic controller, open each zone seperately and run it for the prescribed time.

For a garden hose with sprinkler, you can buy plastic timers for about $20-$40/unit at home depot, lowes etc. Buy two timers, and run a small piece of garden hose to the ground. There you attach the hose to Y-valve. To one output end of the y-valve you attach one timer which is then in turn attached to one garden hose with a sprinkler. From the other end of the y-valve you attach the other time with the other garden hose and sprinkler. Set the one timer to go on wednedays and saturdays, and the other time on tuesdays and sundays. The reason I recommend a piece of garden hose from the house fosset to the ground is that two timers attached to the y-valve at the house fosset can damage it. Run the hose to the ground, and put the two timers level on a piece of brick.

of course, if automation is not required, all you need is a simple Y-valve ($5 at home depot) where you can turn one hose on and the other one off.
