QuestionI just read an answer for a fellow in Texas. When is the best time to treat against grubs in my area? What is the best product to treat with?
Thanks,
Greg
AnswerMid July is the best time. In spring the grubs which surfaces soon will be too mature and large to handle properly. They will dig down in a month and lay eggs which will hatch mid to late summer. At this time, the newly hatched grubs will be perfect for control.
If you use Grub-Ex or other grub product based on the active ingredient Imidacloprid (Merit) it can/should be applied within the next 30 days.
If you spread it evenly over the area, it will be effective and in the soil by the time the hatchlings come out.
Using Imidaclopriod (Merit) is much recommended as it is less hazardous to beneficial insects compared to most other grub-icides.
Check the lable on the products you are considering buying. The active ingredients should be Imidacloprid (also called Merit).
Examples of brands: Bayers All-Season-Long Grub Control, and Scott's Grub-Ex.
