QuestionHi Kenneth. I am new to the area I am living. The back yard is a mess and I am slowly at work to fix things up. I live in Rochester, NY. There isn't too much lawn, just years of leaves and weegs on dirt. Some patches of grass. I am attempting to clear everything and plant grass. My questions is: what are all these tufts of green, shiny gass-like things growing. I pull them out and they have small bulbs attached. Some clumps have 100's of bulbs. It is thick around trees and scattered elsewhre. I see it on many lawns around the area. I don't know if this may be something pretty, like snowdrops? Any guess?
Thank you!!
Answerwild onion. horrible weed. very difficult to eradicate. Best method of eradication is to dig up clumps before redoing the lawn. Trying to eradicate in existing lawn is very difficult. Dig up with plenty of soil to make sure you get everything. then shift through carefully and return soil. Even small bulbs left will grow into large patches eventually. They respond very poorly to herbicides.
