QuestionI have a large number of either flying ants or termites swarming just above my lawn. Any suggestions as to what I can do about this? They tend to stay fairly close to the ground and from what I can tell seem to be ants. Thanks for your time. Liz

People often confuse winged termites with ants, which often swarm at the same time of year. Termites can be differentiated by their straight antennae, uniform waist and wings of equal size. (Ants have elbowed antennae, constricted waists and forewings that are longer than the hind wings.)

If you have termites, and they are not in your home, they are probably looking for nesting sites. You may have wood pieces or dead tree stumps in the area that you have observed them.
