QuestionHi, I live in the Dallas TX area. And since all of my grass has gone dormant for the winter, I can see several small patches of other grass around the yard. I have only been in the house for approx.10 months and have been using Chem Lawn service the whole time. My question is, Would it be wise to go out and spray these small areas with Round up? and expect the area to then be taken over by my native grass (which I believe is bermuda) in the summer time. Thanks.....
AnswerGood afternoon Steve:
It appears that you have some cool season grasses or weeds in the small patches you are referring to. Because you have a lawn service I would call them and ask if they could identify the invader. It would be very difficult for me to identify it unless you could give me a detailed description. If the lawn service cannot identify it, dig a section of it up and take it to your county Extension office. They can identify it and also give you control measures.
I believe , because Bermuda grass is a rhisomitous grass, it should eventually crowd out the invader.
I am attaching a couple of lawn care web sites about Texas lawns that may be of interest to you.
Simply copy and paste to your web browser and hit "GO".

The last site should give you information about good Bermuda grass cultivars when and if you decide to overseed your lawn.
Have a good lawn and Happy Holidays!
