Stumps

Question
Mr. McMahon, I don't know exactly who to turn to with this question but maybe you can help me.  I'm doing a little clearing on some very overgrown land I own and my cutting is leaving lots of stumps anywhere from 2" to 8" in diameter in the ground.  Other than digging around them and ripping them out of the ground, which is too labor-intensive for me, what is the best way to get rid of them?  Seems like hurrying nature along and encouraging them to rot as fast as possible would be the best way.  Isn't there some way to speed up the rotting process?  Thanks.

Answer
Good afternoon Cecil:

I can sympathize with you. I too have had to cope with stump removal. I have been very lucky as my wife has taken on each of the stumps as a personal problem and has removed about six or seven so far. No, my wife is not available!
I am giving you some web sites that may help. It appears that the only way to rid yourself of the stumps is to manually dig them out. I have not tried any of the other suggestions I am sending you so I cannot give you any good advice as to their merit.
