QuestionI live in the N.W. near Seattle WA. My lawn is on bulk headed salt waterfront very close to the Olympic rain forest. My problem is that my mother spread a bag of mushroom compost that I had bought to bury under some shrubs that I was planting on the lawn thinking it was potting soil. Now I have mushrooms that have been coming up for two seasons and I can't get rid of them. It's driving me crazy. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Harold
AnswerHi Harold,
Mushrooms in the lawn are generally harmless and little more than an eye-sore. Harvest the fruiting bodies BEFORE they can make zillions of SPORES to cause larger populations is a major preventive strategy.
Applying commercially available fungicides and formulations of IRON-SULFATE (sold at garden centers) is also one way to treat these growths if you are bothered by them.
With less nitrate and moisture in the soil out-breaks are less likely.
I Hope this has answered your question(s)!
