QuestionLast summer I cut my grass quite short and bagged every week. It eventually was browner and less healthy than my neighbors, who simply had theirs 'cut' by a basic service each week.
This year, I have a new mower, one that mulches quite well. I am cutting the grass at nearly the highest level possible (already see improvement), and I mulch. Someone told me the mulch (acting as a fertilizer) if done every week would bee TOO MUCH for my lawn. Should I mulch every other week and bag the rest?
Thanks,
Bjorn
AnswerGood Afternoon Bjorn:
Congratulations on your new mower!
When cutting your lawn, it is advisable to cut at a height of 2 ?to 3 inches.
Cut more frequently and remove approximately 1/3 of the grass blades at a mowing.
When grass is cut too short and more than 1/3 blade height at a time, the cut grass does not break down properly and contributes to a weedy and thatch filled lawn. The only time you would need to bag your clipping is if you are removing more than ?of the blade height. If you are growing vegetables or have flower beds use the bagged clippings along with leaves this fall for compost.
