QuestionMy front and back lawn suffer from brown patches where the grass dies.
On the front lawn these patches appear April-June and I think may be due to leather jackets
as I found several grubs ( what sort I don't know )when digging up a patch.
The back lawn develops fewer patches during this time but this year has developed new patches in August .
Can you advise what the problem may be , or how I can determine what the problem is together with an appropriate solution .
AnswerHi Stuart;
What do you mean, Due to leather jackets????
That is not a term I am familiar with, regarding lawns.
It could be grubs, but it sounds more like Brown Patch ( a fungus)
If it is fungus, treat ir with a fungicide. If you are an organic gardener, use baking soda disolved in water to saturate the grass and soil .
If it is grubs, an insecticide should take care of them. I have not used chemicals for 10 years, and I don't remember what I used for grubs back then.
Japanese beetles(June Buge) are a big problem here, their larvae is the grub worm, but since I switched to organics, my lizards, toads and grass snakes eat them all. I see maybe 3 or 4 grubs in my whole lawn in a year's time.
Since I switched to organics, I just don't have insect problems, inside or outside.
Outside, I let my lawn live stock take care of them, and inside I use herbs I grow.
I sprinkle cedar bark mulch all over my yard in early spring and about mid summer, to keep termites, fleas and ticks, and a ton of other insects away, and the little critters eat the rest for me.
I use baking soda for fungus and mildew in the yard and on plants, and I just don't have to use all those chemicals.
If you would like to know these bug free organic tricks I have learned, write me. I am happy to share.
