QuestionHi Kenneth
My flower beds have been completely overrun by wild garlic this year and although it's always been present, is now at it's worse. Because they spread by bulb I've got thousands of tiny bulbs hidden in the soil (it would appear at varying depths) which I'm never going to find!
I want to turf over these beds but what can I do to ensure I don't get the wild garlic growing through my new turf?
Thanks in advance
Chris
AnswerSpray the wild garlic with round-up (glyphosate). 2-3 repeat applications may be necerssary. If needed, get a paint roller and paint the leaves of the wild garlic near other plants to avoid drifting. Round-Up will kill all kinds of plants, so use specifictly on the wild garlic only.
In a short while the wild garlic will shrivel up and die.
If you find wild garlic in the lawn later, you can also use round-up to control them (use two pieces of cardboard to "trap" the tall wild garlic leaves above the cardboard and then use the paint roller with round-up herbicide to wet the leaves. This to avoid dripping on the lawn underneath). Best result is had if you eradicate wild garlic before turfing the flowerbed.
