QuestionI recently overseeded my lawn. Last summer my house was built and the contractor's mix grew into mostly crabgrass. Over the fall, I raked up all the thatch and seeded heavily early this year (after the last snow melted). I used tall fescue seed and it began to grow nicely, however, now my front lawn now has a Dayglo green color. Some areas look yellow, while others are darker. My front lawn gets a lot of sun. It also seems to be growing slow. I water 2 - 4 times per week, for about 20-30min at a time. I have also already applied some Scott's starter fertilizer. What could cause the lime-green color? What should I do to to get a consistent dark green color?
AnswerThis is not uncommon on newly seeded lawns. apply a 2nd application of turfbuilder fertilizer now, and then change your watering pattern to 1-2 times weekly, but water more deeply, e.g. such as 60-90 minutes per application.
Apply more fertilizer next fall.
