Help!!

Question
My husband accidently used weed and grass killer by mistake.  Now I have yellow patches of dead grass all over the front lawn.  I used a lawn fertilzer yesterday in hopes of saving the grass.  What is the best repairs.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Laura,

Time and watering will eventually correct the chemical problem in the top-soil.

Most herbicides work through the plant's green leaf so you can probably re-seed or plug/sprig the dead areas to get your turf-grass re-estabished.

If it was an herbicide billed to 'work through the leaf as well as via the roots' (as with certain ROUND-UP products by Monsanto),...then you should read the product's label to see what the 'half-life' or extended activity period is for the product to know when re-seeding will be possible without herbicide effects IN THE SOIL preventing germination or growth of the new grass.

With a Bermuda grass lawn, the surrounding grass should rapidly fill in the bare areas with some encouragement and with watering and fertilizer.  Other grass types can be seeded and kept well watered until they can get established.
