QuestionApril 26:
I reside near Newtown Pa (20 miles north of Philadelphia) and noticed areas of lawn that are much lighter green than the rest of the lawn.
The areas are from one to two feet in diamater and look like light green baby or new grass. I may have re-seeded some of thse spots last year however the lawn was a consistent green color into the fall.
Two weeks ago I used a grabgrass preventer w/ fert. The the lawn is a nice dark green except for these random 4-6 light green areas.
Any suggestions?
Thank You,
Tom B
AnswerSome grass seed cultivars are slower to green up in spring. the problem may correct itself, especially if it used to have same color.
There is also the potential that a lighter green grassy weed has invaded your lawn and is spreading. I would investigate the leaf blades and compare it to the existing lawn.
Some cultivars also require more fertilizer than others. If this is your problem, it can be hard to fertilize these spots more.
I think either you have used a lighter green cultivar to overseed (which may or may not correct itself later in the season) or your lawn is invaded by a light green grassy weed.
