QuestionThank you for your kind help! Here is a little background: I did some construction and needed to reseed about 1400 sq ft about 3 weeks before end of last year, well we had a rain storm, lost most of my loam, so I reseeded, put down new starter fert. but no more loam and got the grass to actually grow, but I know it is thin and it was on a slight hill so I got alot of small erosion lines etc.
Question. My thought instead of running a bobcat all over it again and the expense etc. is to purchase say 4 yards of loam and hand feather it over the area, filling in the erosion areas, reseeding it and more starter fert. hoping to save what is already established and beefing it up with new growth. Would this work and is there something I can use as time passes to add to the base?
AnswerYou can fill in depressions with more loam and reseed on top of this loam. This may be your best option if erosion only happened on portion of the lawn, but if it is fine in others.
Alternatively you can dig up existing turf in sections, fill back with more soil, and relay the cut turf. This is a way to raise the grade. This should be done by using a sod cutter (can be rented on a daily basis) and set the cutting dept very deep (1.5-2"). The cut the sods (just like a sod farm would do). Roll up the sod and bring in topsoil, fan out with rake and lay sod back. Then roll the sod back out. Use a landscapers roller next to ensure good sod/soil contact and water well until the sod re-roots into the new soil base.
