strawberry problem

Question
Hi Frank and Vicky,
A week or so ago I noticed some of my strawberry plants looked like they had been snipped off at the very top.I chalked it up to some animal and reenforced the fencing. But every day it is spreading now and today i noticed a couple of the marigolds looked just the same way and they are in a different area of the garden. My question is could some disease or insect be doing this? I've been trying to research what could be causing this without much luck so far.For background info we have had an unusually long cold wet spring this year.Nothing else besides the strawberries and a couple of marigolds seem to have been affected.I know this might not give yoiu much to work with but I'd appreciate any feedback you could give.
Thanks,
Jo

Answer
I think that there are some beetles that will eat things down like that..I remember it happened to us in NM...you might try using some Rotonone (it is organically approved, but will also kill beneficial insects, like bees,) so you use it at night, and wash it off in the morning.  It is really important to protect the bees...

If that doesn't work, go out there with a flashlight at night and see who is doing the damage and then try to identify the pest, and get a pest specific organic pesticide.  You can get back to me if you need more help.
