QuestionCan citrus fruit peels such as orange, lemon, lime, etc be composted? They seem to tough and think it's hard to see how they could break down. Thanks, Jo

There are two schools of thought on composting citrus peels. Some say that it is a good thing and some say the opposite. I'm from the school that says it is a good thing. Proper management is the key to success. Because the decomposition of citrus peels takes a few months longer than regular leafy types of waste; it is recommend that you cut the peels in smaller 1 inch square pieces in order to accelerate the decomposition process. Using a meat grinder would also be an alternative. To that end, I've included two website links that have process steps that will guide you in composting your citrus peels.
