sowbugs

Question
Sowbugs have decimated our greenhouse--again!  They have taken out almost everything we've planted.  Is there any organic method of getting rid of these pests?

Answer
Sowbugs usually feed on decaying organic matter, help recycle nutrients into the soil, are active at night, and hide in the dark during the day. Natural predators include frogs and toads.  You might consider adding a few to the greenhouse. They thrive on organic waste, so keep the area clean and dry as possible. Repair and seal cracks they may use to enter the area.

Should you wish to eliminate them organically, you can use Diatomaceous earth, spray the soil around the house with 1 tbs. lemon ammonia mixed with 1 tbs. liquid dish soap to one gallon of water, or use a pyrethrum/rotenone solution which is available from Planet Natural at http://www.planetnatural.com/site/xdpy/kb/sowbug-pillbug-control.html
