QuestionI am growing sweet corn and don't like to use chemicals of any kind. The corn has lots of earwigs that are hanging out in the new leaves. Are they harmful in any way? If so, what do I do?
AnswerDear Adrienne:
The earwigs on your sweet corn can be controlled using insecticidal soap which is an organic method. You can make your own or buy it at your local garden store supply. One brand name is "Safer". The recipe to make your own is:
1 Quart of hot water
2 tablespoons of liquid dishwasher detergent (Dawn brand is recommended)
Mix the above and pour into a spray bottle and apply generously in early morning twice per week.
