QuestionHi,
I planted Blue Lake pole beans a few weeks ago, and the sprouts are immediately attacked and eaten by wood lice as they emerge from the soil.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Dan
AnswerYou could grow your beans pots on the patio, planting 6 beans in each pot, using good quality potting compost and keep the pots raised off the ground, as wood lice will get in the bottoms of the pots.
You could inter-crop them with carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers or cabbages. Planting them sporatically throughout the garden instead of in one large plot will make it more difficult for the woodlice to locate them all at once.
Organic pesticides that you could use are Diatomaceous Earth
and you can check http://www.planetnatural.com for other organic solutions.
