using sugar as weed killer

Question
I have been reading some amazing threads that look hard to believe. So I would like to know what your opinion is. The whole question seems to involve using sugar as a weed-killer.  How exactly does this work and have you tried it?  Can you explain it? Thanks so much!!!!!!;)

Answer
Dear Caroll:

I have never heard of sugar used as a weed killer.  As a result of your question, I began a quest to confirm or deny the existence of sugar as a weed killer.  I found zero data for sugar as a weed killer.  However, I found an article online about the use of confectioners sugar as an additive to granular lawn fertilizer.  The writer of this article claims that the normal photosynthesis process that produces sugars and starch which makes the grass grow is enhanced by the addition of confectioners sugar thus speeding up the process.  I can't disagree with the writers logic and I am tempted to try their method.  However, I do fear the side effects of adding sugar to my lawn which likely will attract ants and bees in great number!!  Therefore, my best advice to you is to experiment with this method on a small scale and then draw your own conclusions.

I have listed the online website below from which I found the information discussed above:
