QuestionI have an asparagus bed at my new house, it's no more than 5 years old. I am getting a fair amount but I'm unsure how to care for it. I have lots of weeds in it and try to pull them without damaging the new asparagus. This fall I plan to cover it with leaves from the trees out front. I hope this will wipe out the weeds for next year, will it? Also, can I plant more asparagus by seed and use a different type, like the white kind in the same bed or is reseading detrimental to the existing plants?
Regarding the squash, I read that acorn can be grown upwards rather than trailing on the ground. Do you know if I can do that with zuchini and spaghetti squash as well? And will tomato cages work, or do I have to use sticks and ties?
For the strawberries: I just transplanted some and the June ones are just about dead. Do those need to be under cover (shaded). The everbearing ones are doing ok. I mixed them in the same bed.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
AnswerHi stacy;
Sorry, I know nothing about growing asparagus. I have always meant to grow it, but never seem to get around to it.LOl
