Pillbug (aka Roly Poly)

Question
Veggie-garden newbie here. I see the occasional pillbug in my raised-bed garden. No infestation problem yet and doubt there will be. Anyway, I've read where these can eat seedlings, but also where they are beneficial to the soil. Q: Should I leave the pillbugs alone or try to get rid of them?

Answer
Dear Michael:

Welcome to the world of gardening!  The Pillbug can eat seedlings and I am unaware of their benefits to the soil.  I would not worry about their early presence in the garden unless you have an infestation.  If you get an invasion, then be sure to read the reference material on the control measures published by Ohio State University Extension and located at the website shown below:

Best wishes for your success in your gardening endeavors.
