QuestionCharlotte,
I am planning my first vegetable garden this Spring. I live in Central Indiana, in a newer subdivision which is full of small animals (mainly mice, possums, and raccoons). I haven't seen many deer but it is possible they are around as well. What is the best natural way to protect the vegetables from the little guys? I am planning on growing carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, and zuchini.
I was thinking that some type of barrier might work, but wasn't sure how high. Do deer eat vegetables out of the garden?
Thank you,
Adrea
AnswerHi Adrea;
Yes, Deer are vegetarians, and when their choice of food is not available, they will eat almost anything, in fact, if you lant corn and some other things they ;ike, your garden may be their first choice.
there are some plants you can plant to repel certain critters. Ceyenne pepper sprinkled around the grounf repels any animals that sniff, moles, rabbits, etc.
Human hair strewn around ( get sweepings from a barber or beauty shop). give a humans are around smell, and will repel deer and some small animals as well.
I am sending you the URL for a web page in critter trouble, copy and past the address i9n your address line and go check it out. there is a lot more suggestions of things to use for different critters.
