QuestionI'd like to know how to mix fertilizer and soil for my herb garden.
What container should I use? How often should I water them? What other modes of maintenance should I be doing?
Thanks.
AnswerHerbs that are perennial, such as sage, thyme, rosemary, lavender and other woody stemed varieties generally prefer ordinary soil and not much fertilizer. I would use a large container with good drainage because herbs do not like to have their roots wet. Water them when they are on the dry side, but don't keep the soil really wet because they are fairly draught resistent. They don't need too much maintainance once they are established, if they are perennial herbs. Annuals like basil, cilantro, and arugula prefer more rich soil, fertilizer, and more water.
