Questionwhat causes the tiny holes in tomato leaves? I have not found an insect unless it is too small to see. the holes are approx. .4mm to 1mm. the plants have been in ground 1 week. I do organic gardening and have been in this location for 14 yrs and don't remember seeing these holes in tomatoes bedore.
AnswerDear George:
I believe your tomato leaves have Flea Beetles. They chew numerous small, round holes in leaves of most vegetable crops as well as many flowers and weeds. They are most damaging in early spring. Seedlings may be killed, large plants usually survive. Control: Flea Beetles prefer full sun, so interplant crops to provide shade for susceptible plants; drench roots with insect parasitic nematodes to control larvae; spray with neem, pyrethrin, rotenone, or sabadilla.
