Question
wasps gathering at spr
Jack,
What is the best way to get rid of the wasps that are living in the gazebo that's right up again the back door. They are living inside the hollowed legs of the gazebo. They are getting in through holes that are used to snap the gazebo together. It has no screws. I've gone through and taped up the holes on the legs that are unoccupied before the wasps move into those also.
Since I'm not able to see inside the legs, I don't know how many wasps are living in there.
They are also using a sprinkler system tube. See the attached picture. It's the best shot I could get of them as they swarm outside a hole of the sprinkler system tube that sits accross the gazebo to hold up the shade fabric.
Thank you
Pat
AnswerPat,
Thanks for re-submitting the question. Your only real options are spraying with one of the "wasp & hornet"-type insecticides, or poison baiting if these are one of the scavenger species (see http://www.livingwithbugs.com/yellowjacket_wasps.html for a series of articles that might be useful). To test if baits will work put out a teaspoon of tuna fish on a plate and observe whether or not these wasps are attracted to it and begin to feed. If they are attracted to the tuna then poison baiting will work (see http://www.livingwithbugs.com/yellowjacket_bait.html). If not then you only option is to treat the nest entrances with a "wasp & hornet" spray (see articles cited above).
Post a follow up if you have questions after looking over the articles above.
