What bug is this?

Answer
The beetle order embraces more species than any other group in the animal kingdom. At least 250,000 species are known-more than one-quarter of all animal species.

I am sorry I would need a little more information on this insect to be able to positively ID the species. The plant it was found on and where on the plant it was and the type of damage it maybe causing. The relative size woould also help. Also what part of the world you are locarted in.

I would guess that it is a scarab beetle. Scarabs are a mesmerizingly diverse family of beetle found in every part of the world except in the oceans and on Antarctica. There are about 30,000 scarab species comprising about 10 percent of all known beetles. Scarabs are generally oval-shaped and stout, ranging in size from miniscule to mythic. The smallest grow to about 0.08 inches (0.2 centimeters) while the Hercules beetle can reach a palm-covering 6.7 inches (17 centimeters) in length. Diets of these beetles vary from species to species. Some consume live plants and are considered agricultural pests. Some eat fruit, fungi, carrion, or insects.
