QuestionI have had gnats in the house for several years. They live around my plants near my bay window in the dining room. I have set off bug bombs and have killed them. I know they continue to live in and around the soil of the potted plants, but do not seem to move into the other areas of the house. My question: Every day I find dead gnats on the floor in the dining room. I vacuum and the next day there are more. This has gone on for over 3 months since the bug bombs were set off. If there are that many gnats dying each day, then there are that many more living each day. How to I stop the gnat infestation, short of getting rid of my plants.

Unfortunately some of these products are only available through purchase on the Internet and are sometimes difficult to get in certain areas.
Keep in mind that if you have got a swarm, you need to eliminate the source. Studies show that gnats are attracted to vinegar. For a less caustic approach to getting rid of gnats fill a jar almost to the top with vinegar, poke several small holes in the lid and then set it out. The gnats will swarm to the jar, wiggle down into the hole, and will
not be able to climb back out. If you set several of these traps around your home and monitor them to determine where the highest concentration is you can use that information to find the source within your houseplants.
