QuestionMy mother and I live in a very old house with rotting floors and joist(?). Lately, we have been experiencing tiny little bites that are not really painful but sort of itchy. It seems to be centered around beds and chairs. We have two dogs that also get bit, we have checked for fleas, ticks, etc but there aren't any, can you help me figure out what this might be?
AnswerMel,
My experience is that when no actual culprit is found the cause of these "bites" is usually not related to an insect or mite but rather a reaction to something in the environment. See http://www.livingwithbugs.com/unknown_bug_bites.html for a list of the insects and mites that bite plus some things that mimic bug bites. From your description I'd guess you may be experiencing an allergic reaction possibly to mold. Your best option may be to talk with an allergist and be tested for mold allergies. These allergic reactions can be very similar to bug bites.
